Hello everyone,
On this day before the 2020 election, I want to share an upcoming, free event with you. The Virtual Needham Diversity Initiative Summit on Sunday, November 15, 2020 from 12-5. This year’s theme is Hate has No Home Here: Beyond the Yard Sign.
Needham, MA (for those of you who are not local) is outside Boston and has been increasingly focused on ways which communities can address issues of equity. This summit continues this work and adds a critical element – taking action. Please join us. Register at http://www.needhamdiversity.org/
This year, I’m pleased to be facilitating a breakout session called Equity in Education: Think Locally. In keeping with the event’s action-oriented focus, this session is for those interested in uncovering and addressing educational inequities as we encounter them in our own communities and consider how our actions (our parenting - teaching - any relationship with children) impacts equity.
We’ll cover (briefly):
Local equity issues in education – what are they? How can we make these issues visible?
Our Responsibility - As parents, teachers, grandparents, friends - of children of all ages - what is our role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our communities?
Action - How can we (and by extension the children in our lives) make a difference – beyond the yard sign?
Please join us on November 15th!
Liz Dempsey Lee
